Appendix 12: How to Install a Pressure Gauge
The TufGauge® Pressure Gauge assists the pool professional with
setting the correct system pressure, in accordance with Australian
Standards and helps to monitor and maintain the ongoing 'health' of
the system.
Installation Position of the TufGauge®
The Boss pressure gauge should be installed in the Supply Pipe below
the eves of the building and close to the panel array. This is the point
of maximum pressure in the solar circuit under normal operating pressure.
Steps for installation:
Step 1:
Mark the location of where the TufGuage is to be installed
Step 2:
Using a pre-blunted 8.5mm drill bit, carefully drill a hole on the marked location
Step 3:
Clean any swarf or burrs from the newly drilled hole
Step 4:
Lubricate the grommet and carefully insert
Step 5:
On the male ½ inch thread on the back of the TufGauge, wrap several layers of Teflon
tape counterclockwise
Step 6:
Tighten the barb onto the back of the TufGuage using two spanners or shifters
Step 7:
Lubricate the barb and carefully push into the grommet
Pressure Testing / Setting
With the solar system operating and stabilised for a few minutes, refer to the mounted TufGauge
pressure gauge to determine the systems pressure. The Gauge should operate within the
recommended pressure range outlined below:
Bottom Feed Systems:
Designed and installed to automatically fully drain with a TufFilta water strainer fitted - 100 kPa max
(15 psi)
Top Feed Systems:
Installed with a TufFilta water strainer fitted - 50 kPa max (7 psi)
If the gauge is reading zero, adjust a ball valve on the return line to obtain a small positive pressure
reading.
