How Many Panels Should I Join Together?
The most common and preferred configuration is in a continuous row. However, there are recommended
limits to the number of panels that can be installed in this way due to potentially excessive thermal
expansion/contraction issues and correct water flow throughout and across the panel array.
Balanced Flow
Wherever possible the return PVC line should have the shortest possible run back to the pool to reduce heat
loss as much as possible (Figure 1).
If the system exceeds the maximum number of panels per continuous row (see table above) `or is across
separate roofs, splitting the system is very beneficial (Figure 2).
Never plumb the supply inlet and return outlet to the same end of a panel array as this will reduce heating
performance as it
doesn’t allow for
a balanced and even water flow across the array. (Figure 3).
