4.11 Additional MTS 6520 VCI Features
4.11.2 Power Source
The MTS 6520 VCI is intended to be powered from the
vehicle battery via the DLC Cable. The VCI may also be
powered using the AC/DC 12-volt power supply with
an extension cord or when located near a suitable wall
socket. Typically you use the AC/DC 12-volt power sup-
ply when you are first configuring the VCI, updating
software, and during testing of the VCI.
4.11.3 Battery Backed Operation
Four AAA Batteries are provided to power the
MTS 6520 VCI during a brief power interruption. The
device will not operate solely on batteries. It must be
connected to the vehicle's 12-volt power supply during
testing or the AC/DC 12-volt adapter during bench op-
erations such as setting the VCI configuration options or
updating software.
4.11.4 LED Indicators
Five Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), one red and four
green, are located on the front of the MTS 6520 VCI.
The LED indicators provide the following status infor-
mation.
LED Symbol LED Function
Boot Initialization
Vehicle Communication
Error Indicator
PC Host Communication
Power On
4.11.1 Data Link Connector and Cable
Communication between the MTS 6520 VCI and the
vehicle's electronic systems is through the 16-pin to 26-
pin Data Link Connector (DLC) cable that is connected
to the bottom center of the MTS 6520 VCI. A 9-pin
Deutsche cable is also available.
