The Key Code column on the KVM Switch tab of the Settings menu (see
Section 10.2.3
) defines which keyboard events make a KVM switch select a port.
Certain KVM switches and their key codes are predefined in the Device list; if you
select a custom KVM switch, you’ll need to specify the key codes, as shown in
Figure 13-3. To enter key codes, enter the text printed on the desired keyboard
keys, with the following exceptions:
• Remove spaces from keys that use two words; for example, “PrintScreen”.
• [Tab] is “Tab”.
• Left and right [Ctrl], [Shift], and [Alt] are designated as being left or right by
a preceding “L” or “R”; for example, “LCtrl” or “RShift”.
• A single entry for a key normally represents both pressing and releasing that
key. Designate pressing keys and releasing keys separately by adding the suffix
“-dn” or “-up” respectively. For example, “LCtrl-dn H LCtrl-up” represents
pressing and holding left [Ctrl], then pressing and releasing the letter [H],
then releasing left [Ctrl].
• Precede keypad keys with “KP”; for example, “KP8”.
• The left-, right-, up-, and down-arrow keys are spelled out this way: “Larrow”,
“Rarrow”, “Uarrow”, “Darrow”.
• The backspace key is “BackSpace”.
The Viewer validates keystrokes. If there are invalid keystrokes, a dialog box will
notify you of the problem and summarize the rules for entering keystrokes.
