Multiple installation management
The management of multiple installations is a fundamental characteristic of the Securbase Plus version, which makes it possible to coordinate with Com-
pass SC the choice of the installation to be managed at any given moment.
Each access control installation is characterised by the association of the Compass SC internal memory with a database on the PC. Such association
allows the data detected by Compass SC to be transferred to the PC.
The Securbase Light version allows only one installation to be managed, since it is only possible to communicate exclusively with one Compass SC.
If different conditions require the option of managing a large number of installations, then Securbase Plus must be used.
Securbase Plus integrates the multiple installation management function, and therefore communication with different Compass SC units. This is carried out
in an automatic way, allowing the user to configure a new installation and manage the various situations which might be created.
When the PC running the Securbase Plus software is connected to a Compass SC board, this is immediately able to align its own PC-managed database
with the Compass SC internal memory.
The memory alignment procedure consists of checking the PC to find out if a database exists which is exclusively associated with the Compass SC of the
installation connected.
If the check gives a positive result, then the software proceeds to synchronise the events and then initiate normal operation.
In the case where the PC does not have a database corresponding to the Compass SC memory, Securbase Plus activates the setting board.
Securbase Plus allows the user to create a new installation by entering a designation name. Therefore, the Securbase Plus user is able to create an in-
definite number of different installations, each of them controlled by a different Compass SC. On the contrary, the execution of Securbase Light is strictly
bound to one installation only, controlled by a Compass SC. Therefore, the name of such installation is set to Securbase Light and cannot be defined by
the user.
Installation upload and download
A function shared by both Securbase versions is the uploading or downloading of data to or from the Compass SC board, should these operations be
required.
In general, normal installation operation does not require any type of procedure, whereas, if the database on the PC differs from the contents of the Com-
pass SC memory, then it is sometimes necessary to upload or download the memory.
The term Upload means the transfer of data from CompassSC to a corresponding PC database, which has not been found during the installation alignment
phase. This operation can be activated by the user when on the PC there is no database corresponding to the memory of the CompassSC connected.
It is thus possible to create such database starting from the actual Compass SC memory, and to enable consequent Securbase operation, in order to cre-
ate an alignment of information between the PC and Compass SC.
In the case where Securbase Light is used, the uploading operation is only activated after the Compass SC connected has been previously created with a
similar software. Therefore, with Securbase Light, it is not possible to upload the memory of a Compass SC programmed with a Securbase Plus.
The term Download, instead, means the transfer of data from a PC database to a Compass SC memory, which, during the installation alignment phase,
has not been identified as corresponding to any installation.
It is therefore possible to create an installation starting from the configuration present in a database, thus creating an alignment of information between
the PC and Compass SC.
The downloading operation is generally useful in the cases where it becomes necessary to reset a faulty installation, and restore the memory situation
inside the Compass SC board.
Changeover from Light to Plus version
One characteristic of Securbase Plus is the possible extension of the operational functions of an installation previously configured with the Light version.
This procedure can be executed if the user has acquired a licence for Securbase Plus, or holds the specific hardware activation key.
Once the key has been installed, it becomes possible to convert the installation to Plus mode, enabling all relating functions.
The conversion can be activated from the board for “System management -> General setting -> Securbase Light/Plus”, by entering the name of the new
Plus installation, and then pressing the conversion button for “Installation upgrade”.
Following the updating procedure, both the Compass SC memory and the database on the PC will be modified, and given the name of the installation just
entered. Subsequently, the installation will become fully managed by means of Securbase Plus, and ready to be set and configured with all the extended
functional characteristics typical of the Securbase Plus version.
