Installation configuration procedure
The term installation refers to all the information which are managed by Securbase Light/Plus with reference to Compass SC, and in particular to the physical configu-
ration of the installation. All the configuration information is indicated as installation, stored in the Compass SC memory and simultaneously in a database on the PC.
Obviously, in order for the access control installation to operate correctly, a minimum set of information is required, through which every system is activated
and made operational.
1) Password entry/change
After launching the execution of the Securbase Light/Plus program, a request is immediately made for the access password, which is set as “securbaselp” by default.
Access to securbaselp is possible in two ways:
- ADMIN (administrator mode): any modifications to the installation data can be made.
- USER (user mode): no modifications to the installation data can be made.
The password for entering the program provides security for all the information handled by the program and referring to the installation. It can be changed
and newly defined by the system administrator, but it must be memorised in a safe place, since there is no other way to reset a default situation after the
user has changed the standard password “securbaselp”.
2) Installation creation
The first time Securbase Light/Plus is executed in connection with a blank Compass SC board, the software leads to the current installation setting window.
Since it is a first configuration, it allows the creation of a new installation. Securbase Light proposes the creation of a new installation named “Securbase
Light”. On the other hand, Securbase Plus allows the creation of a new installation, the name of which can be defined by the user. The creation of a new
installation requires a few tens of seconds.
The first thing to be done is to give a name to the installation.
Such denomination is memorised in Compass SC and the PC, in both cases as an installation directory.
In the PC, Securbase Light/Plus will take care to memorise all the installation configuration parameters in the “C:\Compass SC” directory.
Since Securbase Light limits its management function to a single installation connected, the denomination of this version is automatically set as “Secur-
base Light”. Thus the installation is physically memorised in the PC inside the “C:\Compass SC\Securbase Light” directory, as a database.
Securbase Plus, instead, manages an unlimited number of installations. Once the installation name has been entered (e.g. “test”), a directory is created
inside the “C:\Compass” path (ex: “C:\Compass SC\Testy”).
3) Network search
Just after an installation has been created, Securbase Light/Plus imposes a network analysis and makes it possible to configure the event presentation
graphics. The network analysis is necessary to reveal the number of Compass 485 or RTD-CA devices connected on the RS 485 network.
All the devices detected are placed in a list which allows a check to be made in order to proceed with memorising the configuration.
The final result will be a list of all the devices (readers) present in the system installed. Any installation problems (i.e. local addressing of Compass 485
and/or RTD-CA readers) can thus be very easily identified.
NOTE
One of the most common errors which can happen during the physical installation of a system is the identical setting of the physical address of one or more
readers on the network. In the case of identical physical address, any readers concerned will show serious problems in terms of being reached and therefore the
impossibility of ensuring the desired operation. In these cases it is very likely that such readers do not appear in the list after a search through the network.
4) Access point setting [MANAGEMENT OF ACCESS POINTS --> ACCESS POINT PARAMETERS]
Having carried out the network search, the subsequent operation needed to activate the installation is the setting of access points, which is to say the
programming of the functional characteristics for each access point reader, in order to activate accurate transit control.
Each access point reader, either a Compass 485 or an RTD-CA receiver, must be named and configured in a specific way, by choosing one operating
mode from among those available:
[ACCESS POINT MANAGEMENT --> ACCESS POINT PARAMETERS --> READER CONFIGURATION]
-
Reader disabled
-
Neutral reader with access controlled
-
Neutral reader with access always free
-
Neutral reader with access always forbidden
-
Reader of protected zone with access controlled at entrance (Antipassback)
-
Reader of protected zone with access controlled at exit (Antipassback)
The primary characteristics of each Compass 485-Compass Reader and RTD-CA receiver is to be able to control directly the opening of an access point (door).
Therefore, the parameters to be set for each reader include the relay pickup time for the controlled door and the alarm control time for open door/closed door.
By setting the relay pick up time to a specific value, the door is activated on opening for the entire time prefixed, making it possible for a person to pass
through the access point while it is being opened.
On the contrary, the alarm control time allows the identification of any problems which may occur under specific circumstances. A null alarm time is equiva-
lent to the alarm control being deactivated. An alarm time greater than 0, instead, defines a time interval beyond which any alarms are identified.
The setting of an alarm time makes it possible to control the normal operating condition of the installation, and the access point in particular.
The configuration of each installation reader allows it to be subsequently used ‘logically’ as a criterion for controlling access points, which can be associated
with the persons and the groups. Once an access point has been configured and activated, it will therefore be possible to associate such access point to a
person as an access control criterion.
Therefore a person, let’s say “Tom”, could be associated with readers 1 and 2, which would mean that “Tom” is enabled to pass through the access points 1
and 2 which were previously activated and configured.
5) System parameters [SYSTEM MANAGEMENT]
The first time Securbase Light/Plus is connected to a Compass SC, the user is requested to enter the name of a new installation. This name will act as a
reference to the installation.
As far as Compass SC is concerned, after completing the operations required to analyse the network and configure the access points, it is necessary to
set certain time variable for Compass SC, which are fundamental for correct installation use.
These are the variables to be set:
- standard/ apparent date and time
[SYSTEM MANAGEMENT --> GENERAL SETTINGS --> COMPASS SC]
- current date and time
[SYSTEM MANAGEMENT --> GENERAL SETTINGS --> COMPASS SC]
