For Safe Use Of Your Patio Heater:
• DO NOT leave the heater unattended. Keep children and pets
away from the appliance at all times.
• Never use the Patio Heater LP regulator and hose with any other
appliance. Only use the Bernzomatic supplied pressure regulator
and hose assembly in Bernzomatic patio heater.
• Always operate the unit on a level surface.
• This appliance is to be used only outdoors in a well ventilated
space and should
NEVER
be used in a building, carport, garage,
porch, covered patio, tent, any other enclosed area, under an
awning on a boat or a surface that can catch fire.
• Use Patio Heater at least 3 ft. from any wall or surface and 3 feet
from any overhead structure. Maintain 10 ft. clearance to objects
that can catch fire or sources of ignition such as pilot lights on
water heaters, live electrical appliances, etc.

plants, under trees or under an awning.
• Clothing or other flammable materials should

be hung
from the heater, or placed on or near the heater.
• The area around the heater must be kept clear and free from
combustible materials, gasoline and other flammable vapors and
liquids.

Certain materials or items, when stored under the
heater, will be subject to radiant heat and could be seriously
damaged. DO NOT store any flammable materials or containers
other than the gas tank in the tank compartment.
• This appliance is hazardous as it has high temperatures on
various surfaces and children and adults should take adequate
care so as to avoid burns or clothing ignition.
• Guards removed for servicing or cleaning should

replaced prior to operating the Patio Heater.

• This appliance is not intended for and should never be used for
cooking food.
• Vents and openings must not be blocked. Clean and remove
debris to ensure adequate air is available for combustion and
ventilation.

ALWAYS operate the heater with 20 lb. tank in the correct
position as shown.

remove the 20 lb. tank from the Patio Heater when
transporting.

NEVER CHECK FOR GAS LEAKS WITH A MATCH OR OPEN
FLAME.
• Prior to operation check the gas supply hose for signs of
damage. The damaged hose MUST be replaced prior to the
appliance being put into operation. If there is evidence of
excessive abrasion or wear or if the hose is damaged in any
other way replace the hose and regulator with an approved
BERNZOMATIC replacement.
• When replacing the tank into the compartment, ensure that the
gas supply hose is neatly routed so that there are no jams or
kinks and that it is clear of any sharp or abrasive edge or moving
edge or surface.
• All repairs should
ALWAYS
be done by a qualified service person.
More frequent cleaning may be necessary and it is imperative
that control compartment, burners and circulating air
passageways of the heater are kept clean and free from debris.
• This appliance is designed for use only with a 20-pound LP-gas
supply tank (propane) constructed and marked in accordance
with the specifications for LP-gas tanks of the U.S. Department of
Transportation (DOT). The tank must be provided with a shutoff
valve terminating in an LP-gas supply tank valve outlet specified,
as applicable, for connection No. 510 in the Standard for
Compressed Gas Tank Valve Outlet and Inlet Connections,
ANSI/CGA-V-1. The tank supply system must be arranged for
vapor withdrawal and must include a collar to protect the tank
valve.
• The gas tank must be stored outdoors in a well-ventilated area,
out of reach of children. Disconnected tanks must have threaded
valve plugs tightly installed, and must not be stored in a building,
garage or other enclosed area.
• When the heater is not in use, close tank valve and disconnect
from heater.
Safety Tips
• The use of alcohol, prescription or nonprescription drugs may
impair the consumer’s ability to properly assemble or safely
operate the appliance.
• Never move the Heater while in operation or still hot. Allow the
appliance to cool before moving or storing.
• The regulator may make a humming or whistling noise during
operation. This will not affect safety or use of the Patio Heater.
• If you have a Patio Heater problem see the Troubleshooting
Section.
• Light the burner and check to make sure that the flame is in a
continuous ring. Curing of paint and parts will produce an odor
only on first lighting.

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
• Prior to operation check the gas supply hose for signs of
damage. The damaged hose must be replaced prior to the
appliance being put into operation if there is evidence of
excessive abrasion or wear or if the hose is damaged in any
other way. Replace the hose with only an approved
Bernzomatic replacement.
• At the start of a season check the burner on full flame, viewing
through the pilot window, for yellow tipping, floating or lift off.
Refer to the diagram below. If any of these conditions occur
then please call for a qualified serviceman.
• The surfaces of the heater can be cleaned using a mild detergent
and a soft cloth.
IGNITER CHECK
With the tank regulator/valve in the “Off” position
, push “Igniter
Button” until audible clicks are heard. At this point a small blue
spark should be seen through the pilot window between the
electrode and the pilot shroud. This operation can be repeated
several times if you miss seeing the spark.
Always use approved Bernzomatic replacement parts when your
heater needs repair and use a qualified gas serviceman to carry
out any repairs.
Replacement parts are available from your local Bernzomatic
dealer as listed at the end of this manual.
INSTALLATION AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
• This Patio Heater is designed for use with LP (propane) gas. The
regulator and hose supplied must be used. Replacement parts
must be those specified by the manufacturer.
• The Patio Heater installation must conform with local codes, or in
their absence with National Fuel Gas Code, NFPA 54/ ANSI
Z223.1 or CAN/CGA-B149.2 Propane Installation Code. Handling
and storage of LP tanks must conform to LP Gas Code
NFPA/ANSI 58. The Patio Heater is not to be used in houses,
buildings, garages, carports, covered patios, tents, under
awnings, in recreational vehicles or on boats. Keep any electrical
cords and/or fuel supply hoses well away from hot surfaces.
• This Patio Heater is certified for use in the United States and
Canada only. Do not modify for use in any other location.
Modification will result in a safety hazard.
