4.3.2 Plugging order and rules for an OmniBus configuration
There are various ways how Barco’s expansion cards can be arranged in the PCI slots of an O

A18. The most important rules are listed below:

OmniBus A12
•
In an O

A12 the number of inserted cards must not exceed 12 expansion cards. The slots are num-
bered from 1 to 12 looking on the back of the device, please refer also to section 2.2.4 The expansion slots of
the OmniBus A12 .
•
First the graphic cards are inserted in consecutive order in the PCI slots with the lowest numbers at the very
left (slot 1, 2, 3, …)
•
Next the O
MNI
S
CALERS
are inserted. The first O
MNI
S
CALER
is inserted in the empty slot with the lowest odd
number (e.g. slot 5, if the slots 1, 2 and 3 are already used by graphic cards or slot 1 if no graphic cards are
in this device). More O

are inserted in the following slots with odd numbers.

If there are more O

CALERS
than empty slots with odd numbers, then use also the slots with even numbers
starting with the slot on the right of the first O

Finally the input cards are inserted. The first input card is inserted in the slot with the highest odd number.
Insert further input cards in the slots with the next lower odd numbers. If there is no free slot with odd num-
ber left, then continue to insert the input cards into the slots with even numbers starting from the highest
number towards lower numbers.

If using distributed video, it is necessary that the display wall is build of rectangular arrays. That means the
output to the wall of each O
MNI
B

A12 that provides distributed video must feed a rectangular array.
OmniBus A18
•

Cards of the same type are inserted in consecutive order, but not all cards of one type need to be in the
