Preparation for Use

CONSIDERATIONS FOR SEASONAL CONDITIONS
Seasons and weather conditions will dictate what steps will be required when preparing the Load
Bank for use. Listed below are guidelines to be used by season.
SPRING
If the Load Bank is cycled frequently during the spring, there is little risk of birds building nests. If
the Load Bank sits idle for periods of one week or longer, it will be necessary to do a visual
inspection of the interior and exterior of the Load Bank to ensure animals or debris did not nest or
accumulate in the resistor stacks. Upon the completion of the inspection, energize the fans only, to
loosen any small debris.
SUMMER
Most maintenance should be performed during the summer such as paint touch-up, checking gaskets
and latches, lubrication of the hinges and one-quarter turn latches, and hardware checks. Typically,
summer brings heavy rains, lightning, and high winds; the use of the Load Bank under these
conditions is not recommended. After severe weather, a visual inspection of the Load Bank should
be performed to ensure no damage has occurred. Do not operate the Load Bank if the ambient
temperature exceeds 110
°
F.
AUTUMN
Check to ensure there is no build-up of debris such as leaves near the fan intakes or any of the
exhaust hatches. During extended runs, debris could build up and block airflow on the intake screen.
During the autumn months it is recommended that the area between the fan intakes be checked and
routinely cleaned.
