safety through conflicting parts can arise.
Please make sure of the compatibility of the
parts. Combined employment requires coupling
only with other CE-certified personal safety
equipment (PPE) components to protect against
falls from great heights. Unforeseen dangers
can occur if equipment parts are wrongly
combined and do not suit each other, in which
case the safe functioning of a given part is no
longer guaranteed. Please heed the specific
operating instructions for each specific product,
particularly those of the included AUSTRIALPIN
carabiners.
Things to check before, during and after each
use:
Please ensure that the product has no cracks or
fractures, deformations or signs of corrosion;
and that all components are tightly attached
to each other. Open the pouch with the shock
absorber and check the stitching. If the seams
are torn open (blue threads visible), the via
ferrata set must not be used. Professional
verification: Apart from regular checks prior to
and during use, the products must be checked
by a professional authority at least once
annually.
Operating instructions
Fix the via ferrata set via the attachment loop to
the belay loop on your climbing harness with a
cow hitch. see figure 4
Always clip both carabiners to the steel cable.
see figure 5
At the interim securing points of the cable, first
detach and reattach one carabiner and lock it
over the fixed point before detaching the second
carabiner. One of the carabiners must always
be attached to the cable. CAUTION: Under
no circumstances should the carabiners be
clipped to any part of your harness (e.g. gear
loops, belay loop) or be clipped back into the via
ferrata set itself. In these positions the shock
absorbers become ineffective. see figure 6
Both carabiners should be guided continuously
along the cable with your hand as you move.
WARNING: danger of strangulation if Y-lanyards
get tangled and/or shock absorber torn open.
PLEASE NOTE: The via ferrata set may only
be used only by persons weighing between 40
kg (body weight without equipment) and 120
kg (body weight including equipment). If the
person’s weight is not within these limits, it is
necessary to use the AUSTRIALPIN FERRATA.
BLOC or to join a rope team.
ATTENTION: In case of a fall, i.e. appropriate
load, the shock absorber is torn open and
blue seam stitching becomes visible. A shock
absorber which has already been released
– even if only partially – is no longer capable
of absorbing the shock of an additional fall.
In this case, stop using the shock absorber
immediately.
AUSTRIALPIN COLT via ferrata carabiner:
The lock opens by moving the pressure lever on
the back side of the carabiner, then pressing the
gate inwards.
TIP: Hold the carabiner as close as possible
to the Y-lanyard in order to ease use of the
pressure lever and to protect your fingers from
the steel cable.
Special operating instructions for via ferrata set
AUSTRIALPIN HYDRA:
HYDRA is a combination of the via ferrata set
COLT and the FERRATA.BLOC as a third arm.
This YELLOW third arm with the FB clamp is
firmly fixed to the loop of the Y-lanyard after the
shock absorber with a cow hitch. If the FB is not
in use, it is stored in the shock absorber pouch
in the rubber loop provided for this purpose.
see figure 7
CAUTION: Carabiners must under no
circumstances be attached to supporting spots
of the climbing harness or be clipped to the via
ferrata set, since the shock absorber thereby
becomes ineffective.
The FERRATA.BLOC with the YELLOW arm must
