5.2 Expanding the Lift
To expand the lift, complete the following steps in the order listed. Boxed step numbers
correspond to boxed numbers in the referenced figures.
1. Electrically isolate the lift per the instructions in Section 3.2 of this manual.
2. Use the hand pump to raise the lift car until the lift car floor is approximately 15
inches off the ground.
3. (Refer to Figure 5.3, next page) Install two (2) welding clamps or C-clamps in the
locations shown.
4. (Refer to Figures 5.3 & 5.4, page 51) Remove the button head cap screw from the
back cross members, and the hex cap screw and nut from the front cross
members.
5. Spread the lift car apart to its normal width. Spread the lift manually by gripping at
the locations shown in Figure 5.3. Or, if necessary, use the strap and spreader
tube as shown in Figure 5.5 on page 52. The paint on the upper surfaces of the
small floor members is scored where the edges of the large floor members should
be located when the lift car is spread to the correct width.
CAUTION!
As the sides of the lift car are spread apart in Step 5 below, push the two
flexible hydraulic hoses into their normal position. See Figure 5.4. Failure
to do so could result in damage to the hydraulic hoses.
WARNING!
NEVER place your head or torso under any part of the lift car.
CAUTION!
Wear safety glasses at all times while performing the following procedures.
