Programming PEX9716 with Aardvark I2C from

Windows

A.3.1

Pre-requisites



The PCIE-7210-1 with I2C header from PEX9716.



Aardvark I2C host adapter.



PEX EEPROM fabric/base configuration file.



PEX editor software for Windows part of PLX SDK. Need to download from PLX Technology
site.

A.3.2

Instructions

1. Place the card in the Dell server.

2. Connect the Aardvark to the PEX9716 on the card and connect the USB end to Windows

and run PEX device editor.

3. Power up the card by powering up Dell server.

4. The PEX9716 device should appear in PEX editor. If EEPROM is being reported as

empty/invalid then go to step 5 else go to step 7.

5. Open

PLxCm

in the windows and perform the following operations to make the EEPROM

valid.

i2c 0 0 0

dev <device number>

[device number is "Avago PCIe Upstream port"

number, first column listing]

This option is not supported by default and may need to mount a header on the board.
For programming, refer to

A.1 on page 85

and

A.2 on page 87
