The modem can also switch automatically to another modulation
mode, subject to the following limitations:
a.
The modem cannot switch automatically to a modulation
not indicated by <mod> because there is no standard for it.
For example, there is no default setting for V23 or Ring103.
b.
Automatic switching is blocked (see the setting for
<automode>).
c.
The modulation range is limited by the specification of
<min_speed> and <max_speed>.
<automode> The setting of <automode> automatically switches
modulation negotiations according to V8 or V32bis annex
A on or off. The possible settings are:

Default
For <automode> = 0 (automode off, fixed modulation) the following
applies:
a.
If <max_speed> is within the range of the selected
modulation, that speed is set. For example:
+MS=9,0,1200,4800 selects V32 4800 bps fixed speed.
b.
If <max_speed> is higher than the modulation set with
<mod> , the speed is equal to the highest possible speed
for that modulation. For example:
+MS=9,0,2400,14400 selectsV32 9600 or 4800 bps
