You can use a spring scale and a roll of ribbon (outer diameter 42 mm) or ribbon cardboard core for adjustment of the
ribbon tension. Perform the following steps:
Step 1: Preparation of measurement setup
Wrap the test band (test cord) on the ribbon cardboard core. Hang the spring scale on the other end of the test band
(test cord).
Step 2: Place measurement setup
Put the ribbon cardboard core with the attached spring scale on the ribbon unwind spindle.
Step 3: Read set value of the tension
Slowly and evenly pull the spring scale. When the ribbon unwind starts to move you can read the current value on the
spring scale.
The target value of the tension depends on the outer diameter of the used ribbon. The tension for the enclosed sample
ribbon (ø ca. 90 mm) serves as guiding value which should be within the following range:

Step 4: Adjustment of the tension
If the reading is not within the acceptable range it must be adjusted. For this purpose, loosen the fastening screw of the
tensioner of the ribbon unwind. Pull the tensioner of the ribbon unwind away from the unwind spindle to increase the
force on the friction disc and thereby the tension of the ribbon unwind. Accordingly, move the tensioner of the ribbon
unwind towards the unwind spindle to reduce the force on the friction disc and thereby the tension of the ribbon un-
wind. Tighten the fastening screw of the tensioner of the ribbon unwind afterwards. Repeat step 3 and, if necessary,
step 4 until the tension is within the acceptable range.
