UNDETECTED FAULTS IN THE AC ELECTRICAL
SYSTEM COULD CAUSE THE WATER AROUND
THE bOAT TO bECOME ENERGIZED. THIS COULD
CAUSE A SEVERE SHOCK OR EVEN DEATH
TO SOMEONE IN THE WATER NEAR THE bOAT.
NEVER SWIM OR ALLOW SWIMMING AROUND
THE bOAT WHEN THE AC SYSTEM IS ACTIVATED
bY THE GENERATOR OR THE SHORE POWER
CONNECTION.
Disconnecting procedure for shore power connection
Turn the main breaker on the AC panel and the disconnect
switch or circuit breaker on the dockside outlet to the “OFF”
position.
Disconnect the cable from the dockside outlet and replace
the outlet caps. Disconnect the cable from the boat, store or
retract the cable and close the inlet cap.
AC Accessory Breaker Panel
The AC panel is located in the cabin next to the companionway
door. The following is a description of the AC panel equipment
and the breakers that protect the accessories:
AC Load Current Meter
Indicates the total amperage or current being drawn through
the AC panel. It is the total current level of all of the AC
equipment in operation at the time. The amp or current
load should be monitored particularly when operating the
air conditioners, water heater and other high amperage
accessories. You should always be aware of the electrical
load needed to activate accessories and manage the amperage
being supplied so the load can be kept within safe limits.
Avoid excessive current load that can overload the circuits
or the generator. If you have any questions about managing
the power in your boat, contact your authorized Albemarle
dealer.
AC Line Voltage Meter
Indicates the voltage supplied to the panel when connected to
shore power or when the generator is operating. The voltage
should be checked each time the AC system is activated. The
AC system and accessories can be damaged by voltage that
is below 105 volts or above 125 volts. You should monitor
the voltage and never operate your AC electrical system if the
voltage is below or above this range.
AC Main/Generator Breakers
The AC Shore Main breaker protects the general distribution
network and activates the breaker panel while operating on
shore power. This breaker is very sensitive. The resulting
power surge that occurs when connecting the dockside cord
may cause the main breaker to trip. To avoid this surge,
always turn the main breaker to the “OFF” position before
plugging or unplugging the shore power cord. The AC main
breaker also is equipped with a relay that will cause the main
breaker to trip when reversed polarity current is detected.
There is a main breaker for the shore circuit and the generator.
A sliding safety cover on the main breaker prevents activating
circuits for the generator and shore line simultaneously.
Move the selector switch safety cover to expose the “SHORE
MAIN” breaker when connected to dockside power. Move
the safety cover to expose the “GENERATOR” main breaker
when the generator is being operated.
Fault Lights
The red light indicates reverse polarity current supplied to
the panel. This situation will cause the red light to remain
lit and the special relay attached to the main breaker will
automatically turn the main breaker off. If reverse polarity
is achieved, immediately turn off all cabin AC breakers and
dockside outlet breakers. Disconnect the power cable from
the dockside outlet and notify a qualified electrician to check
the dockside wiring.
Power Available Light
The green light next to each main breaker indicates that
correct AC current is being supplied to the panel.
Panel Accessory Breakers
Air Conditioner Cabin (Optional)
Supplies 120-volt AC electrical current to the air conditioning
control panel, air handler in the cabin and to the air conditioning
raw water pump located in the forward bilge.
Note: The air conditioner breakers will trip if sea water
is not being supplied to the air conditioning unit.
If this breaker trips, reset and check for water
flow out of the air conditioning thru-hull. Refer to
the air conditioner owner’s manual for additional
information.
