DD8
plus Version 2.20 - September 1998
FAIRLIGHT DISK COMPATIBILITY
The DD8 is able to read project files created on Fairlight MFX3-plus disks in RBF format (The
Fairlight MFX3-plus supports two types of native disk format, RBF and FLFS. Currently, the DD8
is only able to recognise RBF formatted disks). When a Fairlight RBF format disk is selected
from the DISK SETUP page, you will see the following screen:
Pressing TYPE (F1) will move the cursor to the file type field where you can select the type of file
you want to load. The Fairlight MFX3plus stores all the the information necessary to play a
complete project (including all audio and edit information) in a file with the suffix ‘.MT’. The
Fairlight MFX3-plus also allows a separate MDL (Media Description Language) file to be created
which contains all the information to play the audio in the current project. This is identified with
a ‘.DL’ suffix.
The DD8 always reads the MDL file rather than the Fairlight native project file, so it is necessary
to ensure that this file is always created before the disk is removed from the MFX3-plus system.
Normally, the TYPE field on the LOAD (FROM FAIRLIGHT DISK) page should be left on MDL to
view the available MDL files on the disk. ALL FILES can also be selected to view a list of all the
files on the disk..
As with other non-Akai disks, you can select which tracks you want to load using the IMPORT
TRACKS page (accessible via the UTILS on F4).
After selecting the MDL file for the project you wish to load, pressing LOAD (F5/F6) will start the
import process and the following screen will be shown:
