DD8
plus Version 2.20 - September 1998
NORMAL AND EXTENDED FORMAT DISKS
To prevent compatibility problems with many of the new features introduced in DD8 Version 2.0,
this version of software no longer directly supports writing to NORMAL or EXTENDED format
disks created on earlier versions of software. Although both these disk formats are still recognised
and fully supported for playback compatibility, any attempt to write to these disks will give an
error message saying “Disk Format Is Read-Only!”. EXTENDED format disks can be easily
updated to DD-PLUS format as described in the next section.
UPDATING EXTENDED FORMAT DISKS
When an EXTENDED format disk is selected on the DISK SETUP page, an extra UPDATE
softkey will appear:
Pressing UPDATE will take you to the DISK FORMAT UPDATE page which allows you to update
the current disk’s format from EXTENDED to DD-PLUS format.
To update the selected disk’s format, press the ENTER key.
NOTE : ALTHOUGH THIS PROCESS IS NON-DESTRUCTIVE (EXISTING FILES ON THE
DISK WILL NOT BE ALTERED), ONCE THE DISK IS UPDATED, IT CANNOT BE READ ON
EARLIER VERSIONS OF DD-SERIES SOFTWARE THAT DO NOT RECOGNISE THE DD-
PLUS FORMAT!
