SECTION 4: CLEARANCES TO COMBUSTIBLES
4.1 Re q uired Clearances To Combustibles
Clearances are the req u ired distances that
com bu sti b le o b jects m u st b e a w ay from the heater
to prevent serio u s fire hazards. Com bu sti b les are
materials that catch on fire and incl u de common
items s u ch as w ood, paper, r ubb er, fa b ric, etc.
Maintain clearances to com bu sti b les at all times for
safety.
Clearances for all heater models are located on the
serial plate of the heater and thro
u gho u t the man u al.
Check the clearances on the serial plate to make
s
u re the prod u ct is s u ita b le for yo u r application and
the clearances are maintained. Read and follo w the
safety g u idelines b elo w :
• Keep gasoline or other com bu sti b le material
incl u ding flamma b le o b jects, liq u ids, d u st or
vapors a w ay from this heater or any other
appliance.
• The stated clearances to com bu sti b les
represents a s u rface temperat u re of 90° F
(50° C) a b ove room temperat u re. B u ilding
materials w ith a lo w heat tolerance (s u ch as
plastics, vinyl siding, canvas, tri-ply, etc) may b e
s ub ject to degradation at lo w er temperat u res. It
is the installer’s responsi b ility to ass u re that
adjacent materials are protected from
degradation.
• Cons u lt local Fire Marshal, Fire Ins u rance Carrier
or other a u thorities for approval of proposed
installation w hen there is a possi b ility of
expos u re to com bu sti b le air b orne materials or
vapors.
4.2 Clearances To Combustibles
Clearances m u st b e as indicated on Page 7, Figure
4 . If clearances to com bu sti b les are not indicated,
then installation clearances apply.

Clearance to Vent: 2" (5 cm)

The vent pipe m u st have clearance from com bu sti b les b y 2" (5 cm).
If installed at lo w levels w here individ u als can come in contact w ith hot heat
exchanger components, adeq u ate g u arding m u st b e provided.
