Installing the System

Dipswitch Configuration

Overview

Dipswitches are used for quick installation of the ML600 in various topologies.

Configuration of the system by the dipswitches applies some predefined configuration that
cannot be changed remotely. For this reason configuration by the dipswitches is
recommended only if service customization (such as VLAN-awareness of bridge, VLAN IDs,
Spectral Mode of HSL, etc.) is inapplicable and simple media converter abilities meet an
installation requirement. Otherwise, configuration using MetaASSIST View is strongly
recommended, see “Configuration” in the

ML600 User Manual

There are 2 active dipswitches (DS) from 4 available on ML600, as described below (as
appears from the right to the left):

DS#1 is used to apply some pre-defined service configuration, different from factory.
DS#1 must be set

equally

on 2 adjacent ML600 connected by copper pairs. In case of

mismatch, no Service and Management access to remote ML600 are available.
DS#1, when changed to ON, applies Restart, clears all previous configuration data
(applies Factory Setup, see “Appendix D - Factory Setup Content” and then applies Preset
Setup, see “Appendix L - Preset Setup Content” in the

ML600 User Manual

. DS#1, when

changed to OFF, does not cause any restart or configuration change.

DS#2 is used to apply HSL mode (-O -Office), different from factory (-R -Customer).
DS#2 is in effect only when DS#1 is On. DS#2 must be set

differently

on 2 linked ML600

connected by copper pairs. ML600 installed on Central Office site should be set to -O
(Office) DS#2 is On. ML600 installed on Customer site should be set to -R (Customer)
DS#2 is Off.

Note: Changing DS#2 does not cause Restart.

In case of ML688 (with 2 HSLs), DS#2 performs as follows:

ML688 DS#2 = Off means HSL-1 (represented by MLP-{1-4}) mode is set to -O
(Office) and HSL-2 (represented by MLP-{5-8}) mode is set to -R (Customer);

ML688 DS#2 = On means both HSLs' mode is (-O -Office) (performing as Point
to Dual Point STU-R). Configuration of 2 HSLs as -R (Customer) is achievable
via TL1/MetaASSIST View.

DS#3 - not in use;

DS#4 - not in use;

Configuration provided on DS#1= ON (Preset) - provides plug-and-play approach, achieving
Ethernet traffic via Actelis systems without additional configuration. See “Appendix L -
Preset Setup Content” in the

ML600 User Manual
