4 Smart Manager
4.1 Installation
In order to use Smart the following needs to be installed on the supervising computer:
1. .NET Framework Redistributable Package
2. Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE)
3. Smart Manager
4. Drivers for communication with Smart Logger
1. Installation of .NET Framework Redistributable Package
.NET Framework is usually already installed on new computers. If you don’t have .Net Framework installed you do
the following:
Run the file dotnetfx.exe in the folder \dotNET Framework on the installation CD. It can also be installed by running
Windows Update from www.windowsupdate.com.
2. Installation of MSDE
Make sure you have administrative privileges on the computer. Run the file Setup.exe in the folder \MSDE on the
installation CD. When the installation is completed you need to open SQL Server Service Manager and choose and
start the installed server. SQL Server Service Manager can for instance be started by clicking on “Start” – “Run…”

… and typing ‘sqlmangr’ in the textbox displayed.
