3.3.1 Functional diagrams for protection
The following functional diagrams describe the relay’s protection functionality in detail
and according to the factory set default connections in ACT.
The phase overcurrent protection provided by RER620 is available with single phase trip
option. In this case, the relay trips only the phase in where the fault is detected, without
disturbing the other two phases if single phase trip option is selected. Otherwise, all three
phases are tripped and the related outputs Trip (Operate) and pickup (Start) are activated.
The overcurrent protection function picks up when the phase current exceeds the set limit.
The trip time characteristics for low stage 51P and high stage 50P-1/2 can be selected to
be either definite time (DT) or inverse definite minimum time (IDMT). The instantaneous
stage 50P-3 always trips with the DT characteristic.
