Inspect the vacuum interrupter using a vacuum tester (recommended every 10 years, but not compulsory)
For this check, the apparatus must be in an electrically secured and switched-on state
Before the measurement, the drive unit cover panel must be removed, in order to obtain access to the upper part
of the electromagnetically-operated mechanism.
The dimension
“X“
should not fall below the value of 5mm. Normal values for this dimension for brand-new
apparatus are 8 – 10mm.
A gauge for easy measurement is available on request.
If the measured value
“X“
drifts
from the prescribed tolerance range, the vacuum switching chamber must be
exchanged. For additional advice, contact ABB.
This exchange including the necessary final tests must be performed by ABB specialists at ABB Sécheron.

8.2.4. Repair of Surface Defects
•
Initiate repair work immediately after determining a defect
•
Carefully remove the formation of white rust on aluminium/zinc surfaces with a wire brush or scouring pad,
e.g. Scotch-Brite and clean away clinging loose particles with a dry, lint-free cloth. Finally treat cleaned areas
with zinc spray or zinc-dust paint and then with an aluminium spray to match the colour
•
Carefully remove the formation of white rust on chromated functional parts and the formation of rust on
phosphated parts with a wire brush or wire-free scouring pad, e.g. Scotch-Brite and clean with a dry cloth
8.2.5. Conclusion of the Work
Before closing the apparatus, it must be checked that no loose parts (tools, cleaning agent, screws, nuts) are left
inside. After that, the cover panel can be closed again using the screws.
