7.3.9. Manual Operation
For a manual disconnection, the emergency crank is to be used. It is not suitable for storing outdoors and should
be kept with the accessories of the corresponding switchgear installation.
The apparatus can only be switched off manually, but
not
switched on
8. Maintenance
8.1. General
Maintenance serves to preserve reliable operation and to achieve the longest possible life for the apparatus. It
comprises the following activities:
•
Inspection
:
Determination of the actual condition and comparison with the target condition
•
Maintenance
: Measures to preserve the target condition.
•
Repair
:
Measures to restore the target condition.
For all maintenance activities, the regulations applicable in the corresponding country of installation are to
be complied with without fail.
The maintenance activities must only be carefully carried out by specialist personnel who are trained and
instructed in the issues of the respective switchgear, observing all relevant safety regulations according to DIN
VDE/IEC as well as other higher-level directives. For the execution of maintenance and repair activities, it is
recommended to consult ABB customer service.
The intervals for inspection and maintenance are determined for some components (e.g. wearing parts) through
defined criteria, such as switching frequency, duty time and number of short-circuit shutdowns. In contrast, for
other parts, e.g. different operating modes, the degree of utilisation and also any environmental influence
(amongst other things, soiling and aggressive air) are decisive for determining intervals.
8.2. Inspection
The switching devices are largely maintenance-free. Intervals for verifications are defined as follows:
Once per year or every 3000 switching operations at rated current
Danger!
The apparatus contains capacitors (80V) which are probably charged. All physical contact with the electronics
and electrical circuits is to be avoided
.
Always discharge the capacitors before any activities.
Example
: The capacitor bank with two parallel 0.1F capacitors, is typically discharged after 10 min. to below
20V.
The following procedure must be observed for a visual inspection
:
•
Isolate the work area according to the prescribed general “Safety Regulations”, earth, secure against
reclosing and if necessary protect current-conducting parts safe from contact and voltage. Erect barriers
to prevent accidental touching of potentially live parts
•
Inspect the condition of the apparatus
•
Check for soiling, corrosion and moisture
•
Check for increased temperatures that have occurred on the main circuits
•
Visual checks for traces of partial discharges on the insulator parts
•
Screw checks of the HV terminals for firm seating
•
Condition of the wiring and screw checks of the LV terminals for firm seating
•
General screw check for firm seating. In particular, screw connections in the drive unit
•
Check the connector pins of the multiple plug connection
