REGULAR OPERATIONAL INSPECTION

The respirator user must inspect the SCOTT EZ-Scape Pro Fire Fighter Self-

Rescue Accessory as part of the REGULAR OPERATIONAL INSPECTION of  

the complete SCBA respirator. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Instruc-

tions provided with the complete SCBA respirator for details.

If there are any questions about the condition of the Fire Fighter Self-

Rescue Accessory, remove Fire Fighter Self-Rescue Accessory from service 

and replace and tag it for repair or replacement by authorized personnel.

Always verify that the Fire Fighter Self-Rescue Accessory is properly assembled 

and ready for use. Inspect the Fire Fighter Self-Rescue Accessory as applicable 

to specific configuration:
1.  Verify that the equipment is clean and free of debris. If necessary, clean the  

equipment according to the CLEANING section of this instruction.

2.  Look for any signs of use or tampering such as open pouches, exposed escape 

rope, anchor device (Crosby Hook or Lightning GT Hook), missing components, 

or improper assembly.

3.  I n s p e c t   t h e   b e l t   b u c k l e   a n d   p a r a c h u t e - s t y l e   a d j u s t -

ers for damage, such as cracks or abrasions, that may affect  

performance. Verify that the spring clips on the buckle operate properly and closes 

securely against the buckle.

4.  Inspect the Waist Pad and the attachment of the Fire Fighter Self-Rescue Accessory 

to the respirator backframe. Verify that all retaining clips (jettison or fixed), straps 

and snaps are properly installed and secure.

5.  Inspect the belt, pouches and harness components for:

a.  worn or cut stitching,

b.  abrasions, fraying or rips in the fabric,

c.  damaged or missing snaps,

d.  torn or worn out hook-and-loop fasteners,

e.  discoloration that may indicate heat damage,

f.  damaged or missing WARNING labels.

7.  Open the storage pouch for the Self-Rescue Accessory . 

a.  Verify that the anchor device, descent device, descent device link, and 

escape rope are all properly packed and show no signs of tampering 

or partial deployment. 

b.  Carefully reseal the storage pouch to secure the equipment. 

The escape rope must be removed, inspected, and repacked by an authorized 

individual at least once a month. Depending on the use or exposure of the 

respirator, additional inspections may be required. Refer to the SPECIALIST 

LEVEL INSPECTION section and the SCOTT AUTHORIZED TECHNICIAN  

INSPECTION sections of this instruction for details.

WARNING

ANY ESCAPE ROPE THAT IS USED FOR AN 

ACTUAL EMERGENCY ESCAPE MUST BE 

DESTROYED AFTER USE. ANY COMPONENT OF 

THE FIRE FIGHTER SELF-RESCUE ACCESSORY 

THAT IS JUDGED TO BE UNUSABLE FOR 

ANY REASON MUST BE DESTROYED AND 

REPLACED BEFORE THE RESPIRATOR IS 

RETURNED TO SERVICE. FAILURE TO COMPLY 

WITH THESE REQUIREMENTS MAY RESULT IN 

A MALFUNCTION OF THE EQUIPMENT WHICH 

COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

OF ANY COMPONENT IS QUESTIONABLE, 

REMOVE THE EQUIPMENT FROM SERVICE 

AND TAG FOR REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT

TO COMPLY WITH THESE REQUIREMENTS 

MAY RESULT IN A MALFUNCTION OF THE 

EQUIPMENT WHICH COULD CAUSE SERIOUS
