EMERGENCY USE OF THE FIRE FIGHTER SELF-RESCUE
ACCESSORY
Hands-on training is required before use of this equipment in an actual emer-
gency. Every emergency use situation will be different. It is the responsibility of
the user to understand the use and limitations of the equipment and to make
the best choices possible under the circumstances. Training includes guidelines
and procedures for identifying and using suitable anchor points and exit points
when using the equipment as well as other information beyond the scope of
these instructions.
If equipped with the optional full bailout system (available on the AIR-PAK X3
Pro and AIR-PAK X3 SCBA only), this equipment requires one hand to operate
the lever on the descent device to control the stop-and-go of your descent.
Gloves must be worn while using the Fire Fighter Self-Rescue Accessory
(gloves are omitted from the illustrations for greater detail). Before attempting
to use the Fire Fighter Self-Rescue Accessory, any other unused equipment
on the fire fighter must be properly secured, stowed, or abandoned to prevent
a snag hazard.
In the event that the respirator user must escape from an upper story window
of a building, use the following steps as general guidelines for use of the Fire
Fighter Self-Rescue Accessory:
1. Identify an exit point such as a window or a balcony. If necessary, create an exit
point. Verify that the exit point is free of any sharp edges that might cut the escape
rope while in use.
2. Verify that the waist belt buckle is properly connected and that the belt is snug
around the waist.
3. Pull up on the storage pouch cover to pull the descent device and the anchor device
free from the pouch.
See FIGURE 9 and FIGURE 10.
4. Deploy the descent device and the anchor device (Crosby Hook or Lightning GT
Hook).
See FIGURE 11.
5. To descend, squeeze the lever on the descent device to permit the escape rope to
pass through the descent device.
NOTE
HANDS-ON TRAINING AND PRACTICE ARE REQUIRED TO LEARN AND
MASTER THE PROPER USE AND CONTROL OF THE DESCENT DEVICE AND
TO IDENTIFY AND SECURELY ATTACH THE ANCHOR DEVICE TO SUITABLE
ANCHOR POINTS.

WHICH COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR
DEATH.

THESE USER INSTRUCTIONS ONLY OFFER
BASIC GUIDELINES FOR USE AND CARE OF
THE EQUIPMENT. THESE INSTRUCTIONS
CANNOT TAKE THE PLACE OF PERSONAL
TRAINING BY AN EXPERIENCED TRAINER AND
ACTUAL HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE IN USE OF
THE EQUIPMENT. USERS WHO SELF-TRAIN
