The escape rope is loaded into a fabric pouch which allows the rope to deploy
evenly without tangling during descent. The height of the escape is limited by
the length of the escape rope.
Use the EZ-Scape Pro only as described in these instructions and per the
required training. Do not use any components of the system alone or with
any non-NFPA 1983 escape systems. Do not use the equipment for any other
purpose except as described in these instructions and per the training. Refer
to NFPA 1983,
Standard on Life Safety Rope and Equipment for Emergency
Services
, for additional information.
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
The full bailout system option of the SCOTT EZ-Scape Pro Fire Fighter Self-
Rescue Accessory contains 50 feet of escape rope packed inside a pouch. The
escape rope passes through a stop-and-go descent device which is attached
to the respirator waist belt. An anchor device (Crosby Hook or Lightning GT
Hook) is attached to the end of the escape rope. When escape is required,
the user attaches the anchor device to an anchor point, releases the escape
rope out of the pouch through the descent device, exits through an exit point,
such as a window, and descends to safety suspended by the escape rope. This
belt can also be used as a ladder belt when equipped with a multi-use strap.
The hands-on training provides guidance for making judgments regarding use
in various situations.
TRAINING
Training is required before use of this equipment. Training must be conducted
by SCOTT authorized training personnel. Users must understand the use as
well as the limitations and hazards of the equipment before choosing to use
the equipment in an emergency situation. The training program includes the
identification, inspection, and use of every component on the Fire Fighter Self-
Rescue Accessory. Training also includes actual hands-on experience in use of
the escape rope and descent device from a minimum one story elevation using
a secondary safety harness and safety belaying system on the user. Training
includes guidelines, procedures, and other information beyond the scope of
these instructions. Additional training is available for advanced inspection and
service of the equipment. Contact your SCOTT authorized distributor for details
about the training programs available for your organization.
When the Fire Fighter Self-Rescue Accessory is used for training, it must be
inspected and repacked before each training exercise. If a Fire Fighter Self-
Rescue Accessory used in training bears the shock of arresting a free fall, the
entire accessory must IMMEDIATELY be replaced. SCOTT recommends the
use of dedicated training units that are not intended for emergency use. The
escape rope in training units may be used for up to a maximum thirty-five (35)
training descents (without arresting a free fall), but must be inspected after
each use and must be replaced with new rope when determined necessary by
qualified inspection, or at the completion of the training, or after the maximum
thirty-five (35) training descents is reached. Rope used for training must be
destroyed in accordance with NFPA 1983 after replacement to insure that it
is not used for an actual emergency situation. All training and use of the rope
should be logged per NFPA 1983 recommendations.
These user instructions only offer basic guidelines for use and care of the
equipment. These instructions cannot take the place of personal training by an
experienced trainer and actual hands-on experience in use of the equipment.
Users who self train without the assistance of a SCOTT certified trainer assume
all liability for use of the equipment.
