The patient does not
cool. The activity moni-
tor indicates “MAX
COOLING” and the
patient’s temperature is
increasing.
The heat exchange coil is
not in the coldwell.
Place the heat exchange coil in the reservoir.
The console is not operat-
ing within specifications.
Contact your ZOLL service representative.
The patient does not
cool. The activity moni-
tor does not indicate
“MAX COOLING” and
the patient’s tempera-
ture is increasing after
45 minutes of sustained
activity.
The console is not operat-
ing within specifications.
Download the TempTrend data file. If the coolant
temperature is above 42°C, contact your ZOLL ser-
vice representative.
The patient’s temper-
ature is more than
0.5ºC below the set
point.
The patient’s resistance to
hypothermia has dimin-
ished.
Monitor the patient’s temperature. If the patient’s
temperature drops more than one degree below the
target temperature, ensure that the console is oper-
ating normally. If the coolant temperature is at or
below the patient’s temperature, the activity monitor
should indicate warming and the pump should be
off. Use warming blankets to stabilize the patient’s
temperature.
Machine malfunction.
See above for correct machine function. Use conven-
tional methods to rewarm the patient and discon-
tinue use of the console.
The patient does not
stop cooling. The
activity monitor indi-
cates “MAX COOLING”
when the target tem-
perature has been
reached.
A cooling or temperature
controller fault has
occurred.
If the activity monitor indicates “MAX COOLING”
and the patient’s temperature is one degree below
the target temperature, discontinue treatment and
contact ZOLL.
The patient is warming
(when set for cooling).
A cooling or temperature
controller fault has
occurred.
If the target temperature is below the patient’s tem-
perature, and the activity monitor does not indicate
cooling activity, discontinue treatment and contact
ZOLL.
The patient does not
warm. The activity
monitor indicates
“MAX WARMING” and
the patient’s temper-
ature continues to
decline.
The warming capacity of
the catheter has reached
its upper limit.
Use warming blankets to supplement catheter per-
formance until the patient’s temperature has been
stabilized.
The patient is warming
too fast (when set for
warming).
The warming rate is incor-
rect.
Reset the target temperature to hold or cool the
patient’s temperature. Verify the warming rate set-
ting.
