Parameters Assigned to the Knobs
This section describes each of the parameters which can be assi g ned to the Knobs (pa g e 24).

RIYAZ BALANCE
Kno b A adj u sts the v ol u me b alance b et w een the so u nds
of Ta b la 1 and 2, w hile Kno b B adj u sts the v ol u me b al-
ance b et w een the so u nds of Ta b la and Tanp u ra.

RIYAZ TEMPO/RIYAZ KEY
Kno b A adj u sts the tempo of Ta b la play b ack w hile
the Tanp u ra play b ack tempo is maintained. This fol-
lo w s typical Indian m u sic stylistic con v entions. Kno b
B raises or lo w ers the pitch of the Riyaz so u nd in
semitones, w ith the exception of Ta b la 1. This acc u -
rately sim u lates the characteristics of the Ta b la, in
w hich the lo w er so u nd is not affected b y the t u ning.
Note that also the pitch of Ta b la 2 may not b e
changed depending on the Riyaz pattern.

CUTOFF/RESONANCE
These effects shape the so u nd b y allo w ing only a
specified range of freq u encies to pass and/or b y pro-
d u cing a resonance peak at the “c u toff” freq u ency.
These effects can b e u sed to create a range of syn-
thesizer-like so u nds.

Knob A: CUTOFF
Adj u sts the c u toff freq u ency, and therefore the b right-
ness of the so u nd. T u rning the kno b to the left makes
the so u nd more m u ffled or darker, w hile t u rning the
kno b A to the right makes the so u nd b righter.

Knob B: RESONANCE
Adj u sts the amo u nt of Resonance applied at the
c u toff freq u ency. T u rning the kno b to the right
increases the Resonance to emphasize the fre-
q
u encies at the c u toff freq u ency, res u lting in an
exaggerated peak.

REVERB/CHORUS

Knob A: REVERB
Reprod u ces the aco u stic am b ience of a concert
hall or cl ub . T u rning the kno b to the right increases
the Re v er b depth.

Knob B: CHORUS
Prod u ces a rich and w arm layered effect. T u rning
the kno b to the right increases the Chor u s depth.

DSP

Knob A/B: DSP PARAMETER A/B
W ith the digital effects bu ilt into the instr u ment, yo u
can add DSP effects to yo u r key b oard performance
and the play b ack so u nd of Styles, etc. (page 23).
Each effect has t w o parameters w hich are
assigned to Kno b s A and B. By t u rning the kno b s
in real-time, yo u can alter the m u sic in v ario u s
dynamic w ays, s u ch as changing the rotating
speed (slo w /fast) of the rotary speaker or changing
the degree of the Distortion.

ATTACK/RELEASE
These effects determine ho w the le v el of the so u nd
v aries o v er time. Yo u can make the attack faster for a
more perc u ssi v e so u nd or slo w er for a v iolin-like
so u nd, for example. Or yo u can lengthen or shorten
the s u stain to b est match the m u sic yo u ’re playing.
• When Knob B is turned all the way left, only the pitch of the
Tabla 2 sound is raised abruptly by an octave. This is due to a
limitation in this instrument.
• When the target is KEYBOARD, these effects are applied to
the Main/Dual Voices. When the target is BACKING, these
effects are applied to the Styles and Riyaz patterns.
• These effects can sometimes cause distortion, especially in
the bass frequencies.
