■
Take particular care when working at corners,
sharp edges etc.
Prevent the attachment bouncing back off the
workpiece and jamming. The rotating attach-
ment tends to jam at corners or sharp edges
or if it bounces back off the workpiece. This
can result in a loss of control or a recoil.
■
Do not use a saw chain or toothed saw blade.
Such blades create frequent kickback and loss
of control.
Special safety precautions for grind-
ing and abrasive cut-off operations
■
Use only the grinding wheels designed for
your power tool and the protective guard
approved for these grinding wheels. Grinding
wheels not designed for the power tool cannot
be adequately shielded and are therefore
unsafe.
■
Grinding wheels may only be used for the
recommended applications.
e.g.: Never grind with the side surface of
a grinding wheel. Grinding wheels are
intended for material removal using the edge
of the wheel. Lateral forces exerted on these
grinding wheels can cause them to fracture.
■
Always use only undamaged clamping
flanges of the right size and form for the
chosen grinding wheel. Suitable flanges
support the grinding wheel, thus reducing the
danger of grinding wheel fracture. Flanges for
cut-off wheels can differ from the flanges for
other grinding wheels.
■
Do not use worn grinding wheels of larger
power tools. Grinding wheels for larger power
tools are not designed for the higher speeds
of smaller power tools and can break.
Further special safety precautions
for cut-off wheels:
■
Avoid jamming of the cut-off wheel or
excessive contact pressure. Do not carry out
excessively deep cuts. Overloading the cut-off
wheel increases the pressure on the wheel
and its susceptibility to tilting or jamming and
hence the possibility of a recoil or cut-off
wheel fracture.
■
Keep out of the area in front of and behind
the rotating cut-off wheel. If you move the
cut-off wheel away from yourself in the work-
piece, the power tool with the rotating wheel
can fly directly towards you in the event of a
recoil.
■
If the cut-off wheel jams or you interrupt your
work, switch off the tool and hold it still until
the wheel has come to a standstill. Never
try to pull the cut-off wheel out of the cut as
long as it is still rotating as otherwise it may
recoil. Determine and remedy the cause of the
jamming.
■
Do not switch on the power tool again as long
as it is still in the workpiece. Allow the cut-off
wheel to reach its full speed before carefully
continuing the cut, as otherwise the wheel may
snag, jump out of the workpiece or cause a
recoil.
■
Support plates or large workpieces in order
to reduce the risk of a recoil due to a jammed
cut-off wheel. Large workpieces may bend
under their own weight. The workpiece must
be supported on both sides of the wheel, both
in the vicinity of the cut and at the edges.
■
Take particular care during "pocket cuts" in
existing walls or other unclear situations. The
rotating cut-off wheel can cause a recoil in
the event of cutting into gas or water pipes,
electric cables or other objects.
Special safety precautions during
sanding:
■
Do not use over-dimensioned sanding sheets;
follow the manufacturer's specifications on the
sanding sheet size. Sanding sheets extending
beyond the backing pad can cause injuries
and lead to jamming and tearing of the
sanding sheets or to a recoil.
Safety Warnings Specific for Polish-
ing:
■
Loose parts on the polishing guard, especially
the fastening cords, are not permitted. Tuck
away or shorten the fastening cords. Loose,
spinning fastening cords may make contact
with your fingers or become caught in the
workpiece.
