OPM-151/A
DUAL ELEMENT AIR FILTER
Clean and/or replace the foam pre-cleaner and the air filter
every 2 years or every 200 hours. Service more often under
dusty conditions.
WARNING: EQUIPMENT DAMAGE
Never start or run the engine with the air filter removed
or damaged. Doing so will allow dirt to enter the
engine, causing damage.
A. Unsnap the air cleaner cover latches and remove the
cover.
B. Remove the wing nut.
C. Remove the paper filter element and foam element
from the air cleaner case.
D. Remove the foam filter elements from the paper filter
element.
E. Inspect both filter elements and replace them if
damaged. Always replace the paper filter element at
the scheduled interval.
F. To loosen debris, gently tap the air filter on a hard
surface. If the air filter is excessively dirty replace with a
new filter. You can use pressurized air (not to exceed
30 psi) to clean the filter. Always blow the compressed
air from inside to the outside.
G. Wash the foam filter element in liquid detergent and
water. Then allow it to thoroughly air dry. Dip the foam
filter element in clean engine oil and squeeze out all
the excess before reinstalling it. The engine will smoke
when started if too much oil is left in the foam.
H. Clean the dirt from the inside of the air cleaner body
and cover. Reinstall the air filter in housing making sure
the packing is in place beneath the filter element.
Tighten the wing nut securely.
I. Install and secure the cover.
SPARK PLUG
CAUTION: EQUIPMENT DAMAGE
Incorrect spark plugs can damage the engine.
CAUTION
A loose spark plug can overheat and damage the
engine.
Replace annually or every 300 hours of operation. Always
replace with the same spark plug that came in the engine
and check gap before installing. Spark plug gap is 0.030”.
Poor spark will also occur if spark plug wire does not fit

Operating the engine without an air filter, or with a damaged air
filter, will allow dirt to enter the engine, causing rapid engine wear.
This type of damage is not covered by the Distributor’s Limited
Warranty.
Remove the air cleaner cover and inspect the filter elements.
Clean or replace dirty filter elements. Always replace damaged
filter elements.
Pull the air cleaner cover latch to the unlocked position, and
remove the cover.
Remove the paper filter element and foam filter element from
the air cleaner case.
Inspect both filter elements, and replace them if they are
damaged. Always replace the paper filter element at the
scheduled interval (see page
).
A dirty air cleaner will restrict air flow to the carburetor, reducing
engine performance. If you operate the engine in very dusty areas,
clean the air filter more often than specified in the MAINTENANCE
SCHEDULE (see page ).
Remove the wing nut from the paper filter element.
Drain the engine oil, and retighten the drain bolt securely.
Remove the oil filter, and drain the oil into a suitable container.
Dispose the used oil and filter in a manner compatible with the
environment.
Use an oil filter socket, rather than a strap wrench, to avoid
striking and damaging the oil pressure switch.
Clean the filter mounting base, and coat the seal of the new oil
filter with clean engine oil.
Use only a Honda Genuine oil filter or a filter of equivalent
quality specified for your model. Using the wrong filter, or a
non-Honda filter which is not of equivalent quality, may cause
engine damage.
Oil filter tightening torque:
Refill the crankcase with the specified amount of the
recommended oil (see page ). Reinstall the oil filler cap and oil
level dipstick.
Start the engine, and check for leaks.
Stop the engine, and check the oil level as described on page .
If necessary, add oil to bring the oil level to the upper limit mark
on the oil level dipstick.
Screw on the new oil filter by hand until the seal contacts the
filter mounting base, then use an oil filter socket tool to tighten
the filter an additional 3/4 turn.

firmly on spark plug. If this happens, reform the terminal to
fit firmly on spark plug tip.
NOTE: Do not over tighten the spark plug.
CARBON CANISTER
Designed to collect, store, and dispose of fuel vapors
created in the fuel tank/fuel system. The canister should last
the life of the unit as long as it stays dry.
