Connecting the System--Machine to the Feeding Computer
8 Connecting the System--Machine to the Feeding Computer
8.1 Connecting the System--Machine to the VC3--Bus
You may connect the automatic feeder directly to the VC3--Bus by means of the VC3--Bus--
Interface. The micro--identification „Calfscan SE“ is connected to the automatic feeder, too.
Carry out the following settings in „Setup“:
Switch the System--Machine off by turning the main switch
to position „OFF“ and subsequently switch it on by turning
the main switch to position „ON“. When switching the ma-
chine on, press „Menu“ key until the display shows submenu
„Language“. Press Arrow Down to move to submenu „Inter-
face“. Press Enter. Select the option „VC3--Bus“ and confirm
with Enter.
Now press Arrow Up/Arrow Down to move to menu
„Address“. Press Enter and set the available Bus address.
Confirm with Enter.
In case an identification is connected to the System--Machine and registered in Setup, the
System--Machine will occupy one bus address. In case two identifications are
connected to the System--Machine and registered in Setup, the System--Machine will
automatically occupy the next higher address as an additional bus address.
Input of the Bus address, see chapter 7.1, page 32, „Setup, Different selections in Setup“.
Press Arrow Up/Arrow Down to move to menu „Squelch“.
Press Enter. Enter the relevant squelch value.
In order to activate the selected functions, switch the machine off and subsequently on.
The antenna type is decisive for the identification range. In case of micro- identification
„Calfscan“ you can set the identification range by the Squelch value. The following table
contains the Squelch values and identification ranges for the different Responders.
These Squelch values are empirical and have already been factory- set.
Responder
Squelch (standard values)
Identification Range
X--Responder
0
max. 25 -- 30 cm
Eartag--Responder
0
max. 25 -- 30 cm
PM--Responder
180
max. 20 -- 25 cm
The entered value is active until you change it manually.
A Responder can be simultaneously read at two antennas. If, for instance, at antenna 1 a
Responder is read which is actually assigned to identification2, we talk about faulty iden-
tification due to an overlap of reach. Faulty identification may also occur when calves,
standing beside the feeding box, are identified. In this case, you have to set the identifica-
tion range accordingly. If necessary, close off the area beside the feeding station.
