12.1 Preparing for the measurement
Emission measurement is a complex process that evaluates the release of substances into
the environment. The measured values represent the average value of each parameter for
a given sampling period. The results of the measurements depend strongly on the quality
of the fuel, the condition of the combustion appliance and the heating system.
The measurement procedure is carried out in accordance with Annex 8 of the Regulation on
inspection, cleaning and measurement of small combustion appliances (Official Gazette of the
Republic of Slovenia, No. 77/17), which is based on standardisation documents.
Preparation process for the measurements (3 - 5 days before the chimney sweep arrives):
1.
Cleaning:
thoroughly clean the boiler and flue pipes as described in section 6.4.
Carefully replace the individual parts of the appliance in their correct position.
2.
Inspection of the device:
evaluate the faultlessness of the device. If in doubt, contact
service. Check that the heating system (mixing valve, pump) is working properly.
3.
Fuel preparation:
prepare only quality fuel for measurements as described in section 3.2
.
We recommend half-metre of clean softwood with an evenly distributed moisture content of
no more than 15%. Inspect the firewood and discard low-quality pieces.
4.
Normal use:
after cleaning and inspection, use the boiler normally. Depending on the heat
demand, at least 3-5 combustion cycles must be completed before the measurements.
Preparation procedure on the day of the measurements:
1.
Heat recovery:
ensure sufficient heat recovery. It is recommended that you do not heat the
storage tank for one day before measuring emissions. Emissions must only be measured
during operation at nominal power. Insufficient heat extraction can cause an emergency
shutdown of the appliance, which means that the appliance does not operate in its normal
mode.
2.
Preparation of the charcoal:
start creating the necessary fire for testing at least 2-3
hours before the start of the measurement. By burning a sufficient quantity of firewood,
prepare a layer of charcoal with a minimum height of 8 cm and spread it evenly over the
firebox.
Measurement procedure:
1.
Immediately before starting the measurement:
use the supplied or other suitable tools
to carefully distribute the charcoal over the room. Make sure that too much charcoal does
not fall through the nozzle into the combustion chamber. Any charcoal in the lower
chamber can be moved back into the firebox.
2.
Loading firewood:
place prepared firewood on the charcoal. Lay the firewood tightly as
described in section 6.2.2.
3.
Measurements:
start the measurements at least 30 minutes after you have added the
firewood to the charcoal. The quantity of firewood must reach a minimum of ¾ of the height
of the firebox.
After completing the points, the boiler is ready to perform measurements!
In certain cases, the manufacturer recommends mounting a traction regulator.
WARNING
Compliance with the manufacturer's instructions on the preparation for the
emission measurement shall ensure that the conditions under which the
measurements are carried out are suitable. Failure to follow the instructions
can lead to erroneous results or large deviations from the declared results.
