This publication explains the installation of the WABCO OptiFlow SideWings
system.
Valid Vehicle Types
Single- and multi-axle trailers of class O4 according to EC Framework
Directive 70/156/EWG, annex II with air suspension, mechanical suspension,
hydraulic suspension and disc or drum brakes.
The following trailer vehicles can be equipped with OptiFlow SideWings:
semi-trailers (with lift axles or steering axles).
There are no known limitations to:

conventional brake systems

conventional wheels and tires

conventional suspension systems
1.2 What is OptiFlow SideWings?
The patented OptiFlow SideWings infl uence the aerodynamic behavior of a
trailer by optimizing the air fl ow behind the tractor wheels / axles.
The air fl ow moves towards the center of the vehicle giving a local high angle
of attack for the fl ow. Due to the wing profi le of the fi rst part of the OptiFlow
SideWings system, the Flow Conductor, the air fl ow is accelerated, resulting
in a local under pressure and a subsequent forward facing force component.
The sloping rear part retards the fl ow, resulting in lower stagnation pressure
on the axles, wheels, bumper etc. and thus lower drag.
The air fl ow is also conducted by the MidSkirts and EndSkirts to optimize the
aerodynamic behavior.
OptiFlow SideWings reduce fuel consumption (up to 1.5 liters per 100km).
