– Remove bolts for sealing flange -1 and 2-.
Caution
Avoid damage to cylinder head gasket. If the cylinder head
gasket is bent excessively, it can be kinked. A kinked cylinder
head gasket must be renewed.
– Pull sealing flange from cylinder block horizontally.
– Press crankshaft oil seal out of lower timing chain cover.

Caution
The lubrication system can be soiled by sealant residue. Care‐
fully cover open parts of engine so that no sealant residue can
fall into it.
– Remove remaining sealant from sealing flange and from cyl‐
inder block, e.g. using a rotating plastic brush. Wear protective
goggles.
– Clean sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.
– Remove old sealing compound from holes -arrow- of cylinder
head gasket.
Note
With the cylinder head installed, the holes in the cylinder head
gasket are only half visible.
Caution
