9. Operation
a) Switching the measuring device on/off
Prior to each use, the measuring device must be checked for correct the zero point and accura-
cy. Test and calibration discs are enclosed for this purpose. The test and calibration discs may
be stored in the inside pockets of the holster. To switch on/off, proceed as follows:
•
Keep the measuring device away from metallic objects and magnetic fields.
• Press and hold the power button (3) until the LC display (2) lights up. Initialisation pro-
gress is displayed as a percentage. A signal tone sounds when the acoustic messages are
active. After initialisation, normal measuring mode is automatically switched on.
• To switch the measuring device off, press and hold the power button (3) until the LC
display goes off. A signal tone sounds when the acoustic messages are active.
b) Performing a function test
After switching on, perform a function test before each measurement series.
1
Testing the zero point
• Remove the protective cap from the sensor (8).
• With the measuring device switched on, place the sensor (8) on one of the two metal plates,
ensuring that it is flat. ‘0’ must appear on the display. Repeat this measurement with the
second metal plate. ‘0’ must appear on the display here too. If this is not the case, the
measuring device must be calibrated (see section ‘Calibrating the measuring device’).
•
Depending on the carrier material, ‘NFe’ will appear for non-magnetic metals and ‘Fe’ for
magnetic metals for the measured value.
2
Checking measurement accuracy
•
Check the measurement accuracy by using the plastic films supplied in the layer thickness
set.
• Carry out the functional test as outlined above but place a layer thickness standard (plastic
film) in between. The material thickness is printed on the storage bags for the plastic foils
in µm. This value must be displayed in the tolerance limits range also specified on the LC
display (2). If this is not the case, the measuring device must be calibrated (see section
‘Calibrating the measuring device’).
• Place the layer thickness standards back into the correct pockets. If you confuse them, you
must re-measure with a micrometer screw before each calibration.
