IN SEWING MODE:
Press this button to move the needle down or
up. The setting of the needle stop position is changed at the same
time.
The upper LED next to the button is lit when needle up is
activated and the lower LED is lit when needle down is activated.
You can also tap the foot control to raise or lower the needle. If
both the needle and the presser foot are in up position, only the
presser foot will be lowered when you tap the foot control the
À
rst time. Tap again to lower the needle as well.
IN EMBROIDERY MODE:
If no hoop is attached, the embroidery
unit will move the embroidery arm to Park Position when you
select Needle Stop Up/Down. If a hoop is attached, the machine
will move the hoop forward, towards you, for easy thread
trimming (see page 64).
2. Sensor Foot Up and Extra Lift
This button raises the presser foot to the up position. Press the
button once more and the presser foot will raise to an Extra Lift

3. Sensor Foot Down and Pivot Position
IN SEWING MODE:
Press Sensor Foot Down and Pivot and the
presser foot will be completely lowered and the machine

The presser foot will be lowered automatically when you start
sewing. You can also tap the foot control to lower the presser
foot.
When you stop with the needle in the down position, the presser
foot is automatically lifted to pivot position. This function can be
turned off in the SET Menu, see page 28.

4. Stop
IN SEWING MODE:
STOP is used to conclude a stitch or to sew
just one unit of the stitch. Your sewing machine ties off the
thread and stops automatically when one stitch unit or stitch
program has been completed. The LED next to the button is lit
when STOP is activated. STOP is cancelled once you have used
the function. Press the button again if you wish to activate it once
more.
STOP is also used to repeat the darning or bartack stitch with the
same size.
Tip: If you want to repeat the STOP function for a stitch unit several times
in a row you can save the stitch with a STOP at the end in a program (see
programming, page 37).
IN EMBROIDERY MODE:
When embroidering STOP is
automatically activated and the machine stops at color changes.
Deselect STOP to eliminate stops for color changes to create
one-color embroidery (see page 64). The LED next to the button
is lit when STOP is activated.
5. Speed
IN SEWING MODE:
All stitches in your sewing machine
have a pre-set, recommended sewing speed. Press the
SPEED button or, on model 30: SPEED+ or SPEED–
to increase or decrease the sewing speed. For model 20
there are three speed levels and for model 30 there are
À
ve speed
levels. The speed level is shown on the GraphicDisplay. You
cannot select a higher speed than the max speed for the selected
stitch.
IN EMBROIDERY MODE:
Each stitch type in a design has a
pre-set maximum speed at which it can be sewn. To reduce the
speed when using specialty threads, press the SPEED button or,
on model 30, SPEED–. To increase the speed again press the
SPEED button again, or on model 30 SPEED+.
