MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS

1

2

Remove the old fixture. Make yourself a sketch of

how the fixture is wired (index the sketch by wire color) or mark the wires

themselves with masking tape and a pencil so you will know how to connect

the wires to your new fixture. If several wires are involved or if the wiring

seems more complicated and perhaps even includes a red wire, take note of

the connections before you disconnect them.

WARNING: Shut off power at the circuit breaker or

fuse panel before removing the old fixture (Fig. 1).

Fig. 1

3

4

While holding the fixture up against the

mounting surface, use a pencil to mark the

locations of the keyhole slots onto the

mounting surface (Fig. 4).
Drill a 1/16 in. pilot hole into the marked screw

locations. You can also use an awl, or nail to dimple

the screw holes. Start the screws (F), but do not

tighten fully. Slide the fixture over until the narrow legs

of the keyhole slots are under the heads of the

screws (Fig. 5). Finish tightening the screws

until they are firmly seated, and the fixture is

tightly secured to the mounting surface. Replace

the diffuser. NOTE: The plastic screw

anchors (G) are only to be used for mounting

the fixture onto plaster, or drywall surfaces (Fig.

6). They are not for use with hard surfaces such as wood, or particle board.

NOTE: Do not fully mount fixture until you are done with

wiring.

Remove the diffuser (E) by pulling back and up on the

top edge of the diffuser using your fingertips (Fig. 1).

2

Remove the bulb (B) from the fixture (A) by placing

your thumbs on the metal ends of the bulb. While

applying slight pressure on the bulb, roll the bulb

toward you until the contact pins on the ends of the

bulb disengage from the socket (Fig. 2). Pull the bulb

straight out from the socket and set aside

during mounting (Fig. 3).

DIRECTWIRE INSTALLATION

WARNING: SHOCK HAZARD

If your fixture is to be direct wired, you will no longer need your power cord, and

it should be discarded. Do NOT remove the plastic receptacle cap that covers

the input receptacle. DO NOT plug your power cord into light fixture.

Do NOT attempt to defeat this feature.

DO NOT ALTER THE PLUG.

INSTRUCTIONS PERTAINING TO A RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK, OR

INJURY TO PERSONS. IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK, OR INJURY TO

PERSONS:

  1. Turn off/unplug and allow to cool before replacing bulb (lamp).

  2. Use only with a linear fluorescent bulb: GU9712L-T5-WHI Bulb #F8T5;

  GU9724L-T5-WHI Bulb #F14T5; GU9733L-T5-WHI Bulb #F21T5

  3. Handle bulb(s) with care during replacing. The glass tube of bulb is very

  fragile and can break easily.

IMPORTANT: The fluorescent bulb is included with your Utilitech™ fixture. In

order to protect the bulb during shipment, your bulb(s) may be packed in a

separate area of the packing materials. Additionally, your bulbs may already be

placed into their respective sockets, but may have a protective support collar

slipped over the bulb. Do NOT operate your fixture with this support collar in

place. You can either cut this collar off, or remove the bulb from the sockets and

slide the support collar off the bulb. Discard the corrugated support collar.

Before installation, plug in fixture to a 120V 60Hz electrical outlet to check for

proper operation. Then, unplug and begin the installation.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

DO NOT INSTALL THE FIXTURE WHILE IT IS PLUGGED INTO AN

ELECTRICAL OUTLET! FOR INDOOR INSTALLATIONS ONLY.
Caution:
the wattage of all the bulbs added together in one chain should NOT

exceed 600 W. Installing more than that total wattage can overload the

connector wiring and can result in a hazardous situation. These fluorescent light

fixtures are available in 8 W, 14 W, and 21 W versions. You should identify each

of the versions you have on hand, and add up the total number of bulbs to insure

that it does not exceed 600 W.
