Backing Up Your Files
Making backup copies of important files is good protection against
possible damage to the originals.
✔
You can back up an entire floppy disk by copying it to another
floppy disk, or to a hard disk.
✔
You can use a backup program to copy new and changed files from
a hard disk to another hard disk, to a tape drive, or to a series of
floppy disks.
✔
You can back up files stored on your hard disk by copying them to
floppy disks.
✔
If your SuperMac J700 computer is on a network, you can back up
files by copying them to a shared disk on the network.
Using Applications
Your SuperMac J700 computer is compatible with most applications
intended for use with Mac OS compatible and Apple Macintosh com-
puters. However, certain programs are designed especially for Super-
Mac J700 and Apple Power Macintosh™ computers. (These are
sometimes called Power Macintosh “native” applications or applica-
tions that are “Accelerated for Power Macintosh.”) You’ll find that
these programs take the best advantage of your UMAX SuperMac J700
computer’s speed and power.
Special Memory Requirements
Some Power Macintosh programs may be larger than other programs
and may take up more memory. If you find that you are running out of
memory when using programs designed for a Power Macintosh, you can
use space on your computer’s hard disk as additional memory. For
instructions on how to use hard disk space as virtual memory, see the
“Memory” topic of Macintosh Guide, available in the Guide menu. You
can also add more memory to your computer, as described in “Expand-
ing Memory”.
