If open, the bypass line will allow air from the suction line to be released back
to the wet-well during priming; then, as long as the pump is operating, fluid
will continue to circulate through the bypass line.
2. Lines Without a Bypass
Turn on the power and open all discharge line valves. Quiet operation or a
positive reading on the discharge pressure gauge indicates the pump is
priming. Until the suction line is filled, there may be a delay in pump priming.
If the pump does not prime within 5-minutes, stop it and check the suction
line for leaks.
When priming is completed, partly close the discharge line-throttling valve to
avoid unexpected shock pressure to the pump when the line fills. With the
discharge line-throttling valve partly closed, the line will fill slowly.
Unexpected shock pressure to the pump could compromise the pipe ends,
the gaskets, the sprinkler heads and any other fixtures attached to the line.
Adjust the throttling valve to the mandatory flow rate once the discharge line
is filled to capacity.
DO NOT OPERATE PUMP WITH BOTH SUCTION AND DISCHARGE VALVES CLOSED
OR WITH SUCTION OR DISCHARGE BLOCKED BY CLOGGING – THIS COULD CAUSE
DAMAGE AND IS DANGEROUS. THESE PUMPS ARE TO BE USED FOR LIQUID
SERVICE ONLY. EXCESSIVE PRESSURE CAN CAUSE MALFUNCTION LEADING TO
INJURY.
3. Leaking
There should be no visible leaks seen in any of the following locations: 1.
pump mating surfaces; 2. pump connections; or 3. any fittings. Keep the
pump operating at maximum efficiency by regularly checking to ensure all the
line connections and fittings are firmly secured.
4. Liquid Temperature and Overheating
The highest liquid temperature for the WSP™ Self-primer pump is 180º F
(83º C). Never operate your pump at a higher temperature without contacting
the factory for guidance.
If the pump is operated with the valves in the suction or discharge lines
closed, the pump is likely to overheat. Closed valve operation may cause the
liquid to boil resulting in intense internal pressure that may either rupture the
pump or cause it to explode. Should the pump overheat, stop the pump
