6. Pull apart the movable and stationary sheaves.
Cleaning and Inspecting
NOTE: If any components (other than pins, rollers,
spring, spider, or cam) are damaged or worn, driven
clutch replacement is necessary.
1. Using parts-cleaning solvent, wash grease, dirt, and
foreign matter off all components; dry with com-
pressed air.
2. Remove any drive belt dust accumulation from the
stationary sheave, movable sheave, and bushings
using parts-cleaning solvent only.
3. Inspect the sheaves for cracks or imperfections in the
casting.
4. Inspect all clutch components for wear or bends.
5. Inspect the bushing in the movable sheave and sta-
tionary sheave for wear, damage, or cracks.
6. Inspect the spring for cracking or twisting.
7. Inspect the cam for grooves.
8. Check the bearings for smoothness and play.
Assembling
1. Position the movable sheave and stationary sheave
together, taking note of the alignment “X” marks.

2. Install the roller pin with roller taking note of the flat
spot that should be away from the sheaves; then align
the holes for the new roll pin to be installed; then
install the new roll pin. Repeat for the other side.

3. Install the rollers (B), washers (C) and e-clips (D)
onto both of the spider arms (A).
CAUTION
Do not use steel wool or a wire brush to clean compo-
nents containing a bushing; damage to the bushing will
result.
