4.12 RTC Batteries
WARNING:
To replace RTC (real-time clock) batteries, always use genuine batteries or
replacement batteries authorized by Toshiba. Using batteries other than those can cause
battery explosions or other damage.
Never use an RTC battery that looks abnormal. Replace it with a new one, and dispose of the
old battery as required by local ordinances or regulations.
Check for any of the following symptoms:
1. Electrolyte
leakage

Corrosion (looks blue-green) on the battery connector or cable

Corrosion on the computer's battery connector

White powder on parts of the battery
-
White powder in the battery tray
-
Clear liquid on the battery
-
Clear liquid in the battery tray
-
Clear liquid on the boards around the battery
2. Damage to the connection cable
3. Damage to the connector housing
If you found any powder or liquid in or around the battery tray, clean it up immediately.
Use extreme care not to let the leaked substance transfer to your eyes or mouth. Do not
inhale fumes from the leaked substance.
If the leaked substance was accidentally transferred to your skin, eyes, or mouth, clean
the affected area thoroughly with clean water.
