SIF5600 - Manual - 03 - 2008
7.2 DK5600
Note:
this Section is meaningful for applications according the DK5600 standard (Italian utility) only.
the DK5600 specification (4th ed. March 2004) defines the methods for connecting new and modified
systems to the eNeL MV network.
the SIF5600 digital protection relay complies with eNeL specifications (conformity attested by com-
petent body) for applications where the client system is of limited size, i.e. having the following char-
acteristics:
- the absence of any MV overhead power lines,
- it is supplied by one or more MV/LV transformers situated within the client location itself,
- the length of the cable lines is less than 500 m.
Adjustments must be performed on the basis of the letter which the energy supplying institute sends
the customer along with the contact for the provision of medium tension power.
the criteria used by the supply body envisages that any adjustments to be set on the general protec-
tive device is ensured by coordination with the Primary transformer room protective devices.
example:
Data provided by eNeL utility:
- maximum overcurrent protective device, threshold 51.S1: 210 A, fault elimination time: 0.5 s
- short circuit protective device, threshold 51.S2: 650 A, fault elimination time: 0.12 s
- maximum residual overcurrent protective device, threshold 51N: 4 A, fault elimination time: 0.15 s
to set the correct trip time adjustments on the SIF5600 relay, it is necessary to take account of the
breaker opening and arc quenching time, which is typically assumed to be equal to 0.07 ms unless
the manufacturer has indicated otherwise. considering the use of measuring transformers comply-
ing with the specification, having transformation ratios of 300/5 for phase cts and 100/1 for core
balance ct, then the values to be set on the SIF5600 relay are as follows:
- I>indep:
210/300=0.70
I
n
- t>indep:
0.43 s (0.50-0.07 s)
- I>>indep:
650/300=2.17
I
n
- t>>indep:
0.05 s (0.12-0.07 s)
- Ie>indep:
4/100=0.040
I
n
- te>indep:
0.08 s (0.15-0.07 s)
All the remaining settings must be made on the basis of the system electrical diagram, considering
that the four output relays are independently programmable for the various protective and control-
ling functions
Note: SIF5600 relays are factory programmed according to the settings tables shown in Appendix A3.
It is strongly recommended to check all settings prior to starting up the system.
