4. Tech Notes
4.1 LLDP—Tech Notes
WHAT IS LLDP?
LLDP (Link Layer Discover Protocol) is a
standardized protocol for advertising the identity
and abilities of a device . It is useful for keeping
inventory of connected devices . It can also be
extended to advertise power requirements, VLAN
information, etc ., using LLDP-MED extensions .
Cetis phones can use LLDP information for VLAN
provisioning, enabling the phone to be placed on
the right network for configuration provisioning
without manually configuring the phone .
HOW IS IT SET-UP?
Setting LLDP up is as simple as leaving the
default settings in place on the Cetis phone .
However, the POE switch must have LLDP turned
on and be configured to use LLDP-MED for VLAN
information for the phone to receive LLDP .
To change the interval LLDP packets are sent
at, and to disable LLDP: The interval at which
LLDP sends packets can be altered from 1–3600
seconds:
1 . Log into phone’s webUI .
2 . Go to Network Settings > WAN Settings .
3 . Under LLDP Settings
a . Enable/Disable LLDP .
b . Change Packet Interval to a value from
1–3600 .
4 . Apply settings at bottom .
5 . Press reboot prompt and/or unplug phone .
