8.4  CFA-24 Signal and Chassis Ground

The CFA-24 contains a Shorting Bar at the right side of the system near the Segment 4 marking. The Shorting Bar is
connected to the upper two of the three screws that connect the CFA-24 Signal Ground to Chassis Ground.

Should it be desirable to disconnect these grounds, loosen the three (3) screws two turns and rotate the metal Shorting
Bar around so that it contacts the center and lower screws and retighten the three (3) screws. The upper screw is Signal
Ground, the center screw is Chassis Ground, and the lower screw has no connection. The default position of the Shorting
Bar connects Signal Ground and Chassis Ground together.

The center Chassis Ground screw is captive and can only be loosened 2-3 turns. Do not force
additional loosening turns.

WARNING

The CFA-24 power is isolated and is connected to chassis ground through the Shorting Bar. When the
Shorting Bar is moved from its default setting to disconnect Signal Ground from Chassis Ground, the
CFA-24 power will not be chassis ground referenced. Although the CFA-24 power is not available at
the user interface, opening the chassis with power present may provide an electrical shock to personnel.

8.5  Using Patch Panel (optional)

Available in future version of this manual

8.6  Cable CFA-24 Units Together to Extend Segments (optional)

When connecting two or more CFA-24 units together to extend the number of segments in the CFA system, Telebyte
recommends the following:

Use a short cable that is the same wire type as the Segment for jumpering between CFA-24 Extenders.

Keep the length of the jumper wires as short as possible.

Maintain the wire pair twists between the punch down block connections.

9.0

Set Line Lengths and Interrupts Process

9.1.1  Steps in the Set Line Lengths and Interrupts Process

1.

Select line lengths for each channel or terminate the line.

2.

Configure micro-interruption settings.
