HTTP
Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. Protocol for requesting data files
from a World Wide Web server.
ICMP
Internet Control Message Protocol. Protocol for status messages
from a router (gateway) indicating errors or unusual conditions.
IP address
Internet Protocol address. The address assigned by the network
administrator to a talk/listen device that distinguishes it from the
other devices on the LAN.
LAN
Local Area Network.
LPD
Line Printer Daemon. Protocol which enables print files to be
sent to print servers and (if implemented by server) get status of
the remote print queue, examine print jobs, and cancel print
jobs.
protocol
An evolving set of rules that governs the format and transmis-
sion of data in a network.
RFC
Request for Comments. Working notes on evolving Internet
research and development available from the Defense Data
Network (DDN) NIC at SRI International.
RPC
Remote Procedure Call. Protocol to transmit procedure call data
across a network to a server and return to the calling client.
Used in the AD007 adapter to implement VXI-11 function calls.
TCP/IP
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. An Internet
protocol for two-way stream data transfer between programs on
two Internet hosts.
