This recorder can make recordings onto recordable
DVD discs from TV, DV in or other external equipment
connected to the recorder. Firstly please read the basic
recording concepts below before using the recording
function. It is not possible to record from protected
discs, video tapes or other copy protected sources.
DISCS FOR RECORDING
DVD+R/-R and DVD+RW/-RW discs can be recorded
with this recorder. +R/-R of the DVD+R/-R means
Recordable and discs can only be recorded once like
CD-R. recordable. While +RW/-RW of the DVD+RW/-RW
means ReWritable and can be recorded many times.
DVD-R Discs
- DVD-R discs can be recorded in the Video mode.
- Discs are write-once with a capacity of 4.7GB per side.
- Two versions have been defined: DVD-R for Authoring
and DVD-R for General use.
- DVD-R discs allow incremental writing (cf CD-R multi-
session writing)
- Finalised discs can be played with other DVD players.
- Disc title can be edited with this recorder until
finalised.
DVD-RW discs.
- DVD-RW discs can be recorded in Video and VR
modes.
- discs are re-writable with a capacity of 4.7GB
per side for consumer applications such as video
recording.
- Write and Erasing is enabled up to 1,000 times.
- Erase and initialize(format) is enabled.
- Additional recordings can be made until the disc is
full, but recording time cannot be increased by eras-
ing. Erased titles remain on the disc, but are not visible
in the recorded menu.
- Finalised discs can be played on other DVD players.
- Disc title can be edited with this recorder until
finalised.
DVD+R Discs
This format, which is essentially very similar to DVD-R,
was developed by Philips and Sony. It is an extension of
the DVD+RW format supported by the DVD+RW Alliance
comprising HP, Philips, Ricoh, Sony, Yamaha,
Verbatim/Mitsubishi Chemical, Dell and Thomson.
DVD+RW Discs
A different version of a re-writable DVD-RW format that
is designed to be more suitable for both real-time video
recording and random data recording. DVD+RW discs
can be recorded in 4.7GB capacities. DVD+RW discs
can be accessed in set top DVD players and computers
equipped with DVD-ROM drives.
INITIALIZE AND FINALISE
Initializing must be performed before using a DVD-
RW/+RW disc. After the Discs have initialized you can
record. you can also make a blank disc with
initializing(format).
In order to play a recorded disc (DVD +R,-R,+RW,-RW)
which was recorded in another unit, it should be
finalised in the other recorder.
Otherwise, a "Disc Error" Message Box may appear
when the disc is inserted.
UnfinRW/-RW discs recorded on non -TEAC
DVD recorders may not be compatible with this unit. In
order to create a recording with a disc recorded on
another brand DVD recorder, select Format in the
DVR301 SETUP menu.
Note: Formatting erases all contents on the disc.
QUALITY OF RECORDING
Quality of Recording can be set according to Recording
mode. Refer to table below for the applicable recording
mode. you can select recording mode in each title.
DISC REMAINING TIME
Disc remaining time is set according to the quality of
recording. The higher the quality mode setting, the less
the recording time is available on the disc. If you want
long recording time, set recording mode with "SLP"
UNRECORDABLE DISC
- CD-R/-RW cannot be recorded.
- Disc damaged physically cannot be recorded.
- Finalised disc cannot be recorded. After unfinalised
you can record.
- Fully recorded disc cannot be recorded.
- According to a kind of disc vendor a few disc may be
not recordable. Try to use other discs.
- Regarding DVD-RW DISC ( 1X / Version 1.1), the unit
cannot support these types of disc for recording.
RECOMMENDED DISC
- Recommended discs might work better than others. if
you want to record in high fidelity, use these recom-
mended disc.
