Setting Up the Printer for Network Management
In order to configure the printer via the web browser or through SNMP,
you must ensure that the network protocol settings for the printer’s
network interface are correct.
Note:
For AppleTalk printing, you do not need to set an IP address.
Setting Up an IP Address
To set the printer network, select one of the following procedures
according to your network topology.
Setting a Static IP Address on the Printer Control Panel
For instructions on setting up the printer using a static IP address see
Chapter 3.
Setting the IP Address with DHCP
In order to use DHCP, you should set
DHCP
on the Network Menu of
the printer control panel. You must also set the IP address of the printer
to
0.0.0.0
. Once the IP address has been changed, restart the printer to
enable DHCP settings.
Setting the IP Address with BOOTP
To use BOOTP, set
BOOTP
on the Network Menu of the printer control
panel, then restart the printer. For additional information on setting up
your BOOTP daemon, see your UNIX manual.
Setting the IP Address with ICMP
If you want to use ICMP, set
ICMP
on the Network Menu of the printer
control panel, then set an IP address manually by using
ARP
and
ping
from a host, or via a dedicated ICMP server. Once the IP address is set,
restart the printer to complete the process.
If the IP address was successfully set, during warm-up the printer will
display a message indicating that a reply was received from the ICMP
server.
Setting the IP Address with Web JetAdmin
Using the Web JetAdmin tools, you can configure the printer’s IP address
remotely. To configure the IP address of the printer, use the Web
JetAdmin Configuration page.
Checking the IP Address
If you want to check the IP address of the printer, print a configuration
page using the Test Menu on the printer control panel.
If you want to check the connection between a host on the network and
the printer, use
ping
.
