VI.
Protocol: Preparing the ICELL8 cx System
A.
Powering on the System
IMPORTANT:
Make sure that the ICELL8 cx Module is connected to the proper USB
port on the computer with a USB cable.
1.
Power up the system by flipping the switch at the back of the ICELL8 cx unit.
2.
Start the SMARTer ICELL8 cx Software on the computer by double-clicking the “SMARTer
ICELL8 cx” icon (see below) on the desktop.

It may take ~5 min for the ICELL8 cx dew point sensors to stabilize.
b.
The XY Stage and Syringe Pump will initialize when the software is connected to the
ICELL8 cx module.
c.
The live chamber temperature, chamber relative humidity, chuck setpoint, and chuck
temperature are displayed in the boxes below.

B.
Checking System Containers
1.
Check the amount of water in the Water Bottle. Make sure the Water Bottle is filled with Milli-Q
water to the 1 L mark on the bottle.
2.
Check the Humidifier Reservoir (the one on NOT on the scale). Make sure it is filled with Milli-Q
water to the 500-ml mark on the container.
3.
Check the Waste Container. If full, dispose of waste appropriately and replace the Waste Container
with an empty one.
4.
Check the Wash Bottle. If there is less than ~1 inch (2.5 cm) of liquid in the Wash Container, add
0.2% reagent-grade sodium hypochlorite solution to the 500-ml mark (Figure 8).
Replace the 0.2% sodium hypochlorite solution when it is more than a week old.
