First-Time Use
Follow the instructions in this section to set up the
PTC-1800 for the first time.
Connecting a ferrite bead to the AC or vehicle adapter
To comply with Federal Communications Commission
(FCC) Part 15, Class B regulations, a ferrite bead
must be connected to the PTC-1800's AC or vehicle
adapter before the adapter is used.
A ferrite bead is shipped with the PTC-1800. Follow
the instructions below to attach it properly.
1. Place the open bead around the AC or vehicle
adapter's cord.
2. Position the bead approximately 5 in. (13 cm)
away from the connector that will plug into the
PTC-1800's charger jack.
3. Snap the bead closed to secure it to the cord.
Installing the battery pack
Follow the instructions in the “Installing a new
battery pack” section in Chapter 12 to install the
PTC-1800's lithium-ion battery pack.
Charging the battery pack
The battery pack must be charged before you can use
the PTC-1800. Follow the instructions in the
“Recharging the battery pack” section in Chapter 12.
Charging the bridge battery
The bridge battery must be charged before you can
use the PTC-1800. Charging the main battery pack as
instructed in the previous section will also fully
charge the bridge battery. See Chapter 13 for more
information.
