The hard drives are mounted in drive carriers to simplify their installation and re-
moval from the chassis. These carriers also help promote proper air
fl
ow through
the drive bays.
Removing the Dummy Drive from the Drive Carrier
1. Remove the hard drive carrier from the chassis as described in the previous
section and lay the drive carrier on a
fl
at surface.
2. Remove the two screws securing the dummy drive to the drive carrier.
3. Lift the dummy drive from the drive carrier.
Warning: Except for short periods of time while swapping hard drives, do
not operate the server with the hard drive bays empty. All carriers (even
without hard drives present) must remain in their bays to maintain proper
air
fl
ow.
